    Fuel Grades and Additives

    This is a jet-fuel twin, and its approved grades span four national standards. The additive rules are exact — each has a ppm ceiling, mixing types is forbidden, and the anti-icing additive may not be used with every approved grade.

    At a glance

    • Recommended minimum cetane number36 (EN ISO 5165 / ASTM D613)
    • KATHON FP 1.5 (anti-microbial)maximum 100 ppm
    • BIOBOR JF, initial treatmentmaximum 270 ppm
    • BIOBOR JF, permanent usemaximum 135 ppm
    • PRIST Hi-Flash (anti-icing)maximum 1500 ppm

    Approved fuel grades

    • JET A and JET A-1 (ASTM D 1655);

    • TS-1 and RT, to the Russian and Ukrainian standards;

    • No. 3 Jet Fuel (China, GB 6537-2006);

    • JP-8 (F34) (USA, MIL-DTL-83133G-2010);

    • blends of the listed grades.

    NOTE — A minimum cetane number of 36 is recommended, determined in accordance with EN ISO 5165 / ASTM D613.

    Only uncontaminated fuel from reliable sources may be used, and any mixture of different types of fuel additive is not permitted.

    Anti-microbial additives

    • KATHON FP 1.5 — maximum 100 ppm.

    • BIOBOR JF — maximum 270 ppm for initial treatment, and maximum 135 ppm for permanent use after that initial treatment.

    CAUTION — Where the fuel additive dosage is unknown or excessive, purge the fuel system until the dosage falls back inside the permitted limits.

    A higher dosage of a specified additive is allowed for cleaning the fuel system, following the additive supplier's instructions. The engine must not be operated during cleaning.

    Anti-icing additive

    The permitted anti-icing fuel additive is PRIST Hi-Flash, to a maximum of 1500 ppm.

    CAUTION — The use of PRIST Hi-Flash is restricted to JP-8 (F34), JET A and JET A-1 (ASTM D 1655), and to nothing else.
