    Takeoff Performance Charts

The short field takeoff charts assume a specific technique, and the speeds they schedule change with weight. One caution on these charts matters more than any distance: in the shaded weight range, the airplane can barely climb on one engine.

    At a glance

    • Rotation, 3800 lb70 KIAS
    • Rotation, 3400 lb66 KIAS
    • Rotation, 3000 lb62 KIAS
    • Rotation, 2600 lb57 KIAS
    • 50 ft obstacle speed, 3800 lb82 KIAS
    • 50 ft obstacle speed, 3400 lb77 KIAS
    • 50 ft obstacle speed, 3000 lb72 KIAS
    • 50 ft obstacle speed, 2600 lb67 KIAS
    • Shaded area one-engine climbless than 50 FPM

Accelerate and stop distance (Figure 5-11)

    • Power — both engines 2700 RPM and full throttle.

    • Mixture — full rich.

    • Wing flaps — 0°.

    • Abort — at the scheduled rotation speed.

    • Cowl flaps — open.

    • Runway — paved, level and dry.

    • Braking — maximum.

Short field ground roll (Figure 5-13)

    • Wing flaps — 0°.

    • Cowl flaps — open.

    • Power — 2700 RPM and full throttle before brake release.

    • Runway — paved, level and dry.

    Rotation speed by weight

    • 3800 lb — 70 KIAS.

    • 3400 lb — 66 KIAS.

    • 3000 lb — 62 KIAS.

    • 2600 lb — 57 KIAS.

    Over a 50 ft obstacle (Figure 5-15)

The rotation speeds are the same as above; the chart adds an obstacle speed for each weight.

    • 3800 lb — 82 KIAS.

    • 3400 lb — 77 KIAS.

    • 3000 lb — 72 KIAS.

    • 2600 lb — 67 KIAS.

CAUTION — If the takeoff weight falls in the shaded area of the short field takeoff charts, the best one engine inoperative rate of climb is less than 50 FPM.

    • What flap setting and power do the short field charts assume?

    • At what point is the takeoff abandoned in the accelerate-stop chart?

    • What is the rotation speed at 3800 lb and at 2600 lb?

    • What is the 50 ft obstacle speed at 3800 lb?

    • What does the shaded area on the short field takeoff charts warn you about?
